Located in southern West Virginia, Alderson is a community split geographically by the Greenbrier River, with portions in both Greenbrier and Monroe Counties. Although split physically by the river, the town functions as one entity, including that of town government, and is home to about 1,200 residents.<\/p>\n

\u200bAlderson is designated as a National Register of Historic Places with 1,390 acres and 165 structures of historic or architectural significance. Alderson is a beautiful and quiet residential community with retail establishments in its downtown historic district. <\/p>\n

You will find many camps and vacation homes along the Greenbrier River and tourists visiting the surrounding countryside. Driving around this small town, you will see homes from the turn of the 20th Century, such as Federal, Queen Anne and Victorian styled homes.<\/p>\n

\u200bTransportation by car is the best way to see this beautiful historic town. Alderson is about 12 miles from Interstate 64, 16 miles west of historic Lewisburg, the county seat of Greenbrier County; 23 miles east of Hinton, WV, and about 45 miles east of Beckley, WV. The Greenbrier Valley Airport located in Lewisburg, WV is nearby or take Amtrak, the national passenger rail service, providing service to Alderson under the Cardinal route.<\/p>\n

The nearby Greenbrier River Campground is one of only three campgrounds in the state of West Virginia that is nationally rated four stars. RV and tent camping along the Greenbrier River, includes on-site RV rentals with all the conveniences of home with water, sewer, electric, store, coin laundry and river activities. There are many Greenbrier Valley historic landmarks, beautiful scenery, quaint towns and attractions to explore, as well as recreational activities such as canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, biking, and of course fishing.
