Welcome to Stonelick! This stunning, custom built white oak log home is surrounded by a private 57+ acre estate property with a 10 acre meadow and 47 acre mature temperate hardwood forest. Located on Keeney Mountain at 3150' in elevation, the home site captures the stunning long views of distant mountains and the valleys below. On a bright blue mountain morning, Peters Mountain in Virginia can be seen nearly 40 miles away. A nice hiking trail winds through the meadow and through the forest. Early morning or late evening is the perfect time to enjoy a stroll along the trail and let the birds keep you company with their songs. Late summer evenings bring the night sounds of crickets, bullfrogs, cicadas, owls and doves, all within the flashing backdrop of countless lightning bugs. The cool temperate climate and loamy soils are conducive for the production of grapes, apples and peaches. The pastures may be used for grazing horses, goats, sheep, cattle, llamas and donkeys and all do well on the native bluegrass that grows so well in the region. Pigs would do well here too and love munching on acorns, hickory nuts and crab-apples from the native trees in the fall of the year. Beekeeping is also a very popular pastime in the area and Stonelick would be well suited for the production of honey with some well-placed hives. A portion of the property is also suited for the production of row crops and vegetables. Several nice garden spots are available. Pumpkins will do well here too. The trees scattered about the farm are very beautiful with some old growth Walnuts and Oaks that started growing in the 1800's. The song birds, deer, rabbits, wild turkey, and squirrels thrive here as the gentle laying land, abundant water and vegetative diversity create the perfect wildlife habitat. The night sky is filled with stars and not light pollution. Adjoining Monroe County is noted as the #1 producer of sheep and Greenbrier County is the #1 cattle producer. For the water enthusiast the Greenbrier River, New River and 2000 acre Bluestone Lake is a 20 minute drive. The area offers unlimited soft recreational activities including white water rafting, golfing, fishing, camping, hiking, bird watching and rock climbing. Snow skiing at the Winterplace Resort is 45 minutes away. In 20 minutes you can catch the Amtrak train in Hinton and ride to the Greenbrier Resort, Chicago, Washington, DC or New York City. The Beckley Airport and Greenbrier Valley Airports are just 40 minutes away. The previous owner hired a neighbor and his horse to cut trees and drag to the top for construction of the cabin. It is a poplar log cabin with rough cut oak clap board and a commercial rubber roof. They covered the roof with dirt to stabilize. When we purchased the property the roof was loaded with full blooming daisies. The cabin has a 120' well, sink, bathtub/shower, root cellar (needs repair), electric range/oven, second story loft and antique wood burning stove in front room. There is also a masonary fire place with steel plate cook top and small oven for baking. Over the years we have hosted many gatherings with local musicians that shared their stories of family living on this mountain top. The pastures were cleared of rocks generations ago and those rocks line the pasture just inside the tree line. The last three years we opened the side room of the cabin up for winter goat quarters as there was electric & water to keep them safe & warm. OTHER BUILDINGS Old shed 9 x 22 with second story storage. This was used as goat shed and is currently used by deer during winter weather and hot days of the summer. Current (summer) goat shed 15 x 14…two rooms Metal shop garage (concrete block & wood) 19 x 24 used by previous owner that made metal art. Overhead metal I beam and trolley. There is also an old chimney and spring troth running from spring located above building in woods. 2nd story is 8 x 16. This building is filled with Gastineau logs, building supplies from previous projects & antique cook stove in need of repair. There is also a block style water reservoir that was once connected to the spring above the Metal workshop. This block reservoir is in need of repair.
