"Old becomes new." In the mid 1970s, folks in the Greenbrier Valley talked about a man gathering antique logs from barns and old homesteads. He was building a log cabin on top of Muddy Creek Mt. He didn't want to use new materials, but focused on making the "cabin" authentic, even the hardware. Completed in 1977, he not only impressed the folks with his build, but he also captured breathtaking views overlooking the Fort Springs valley and mountain ranges beyond.
In 2008, a new owner recognized the uniqueness of the property and started upgrading, yet keeping the authentic nature to the property. She improved the quality of the home. She states "Anything we built new, we made look old." The following is a list of quality features added after 2008:
1. All floors removed, new floor joists, and wormy chestnut floors installed
2. New Roof on house 2009 and new roofs on garage and all outbuildings 2011
3. Ceilings gutted, balcony added, and opened ceilings to a cathedral style living space
4. New porches (new to look old)
5. New plumbing
6. New Heat and Air conditioning- (has extended warranty until 12-26-2020
7. New master bath
8. Added to and reinforced Cliff Lookout
9. New leach fields for septic
10. Added propane for heat pump and fireplace insert
11. Well upgrade 2011
12. New light fixtures and wiring
13. Soapstone kitchen sink
14. New dishwasher 2014; new range oven 2015; leather fans 2009; new propane fireplace insert 2015
15. 2 new hot water heaters, one purchased in 2009; one in 2012.
16. Owner has continued a exterminating service for bees. No reports of powder post beetles.
Now the property is a stunning unique estate with privacy, yet convenience. Travel time to the Lewisburg/ Fairlea area is approximately 15 minutes.
An additional log structure currently used as an outbuilding could be refurbished and made into guest quarters or extra entertainment area.
The pole barn 3 sided garage is 787 sq ft. Antique log outbuilding 154 sq ft; and shed building is 238 sq feet.
The level 6 acre tract offers awesome views and a bridge access to the 465 sq ft overlook deck. Property is wooded, yet some clearing for small yard. Split rail fence is used to outline parts of property.
Adjoining 2 acre tract may be available for purchase.
Truly an "Almost Heaven" living experience, a national park feel.
