Once through the gate and onto the property from Snake Run Road, a well-maintained gravel driveway curves around a gentle hill that provides privacy from the road and is home to the barn. Once around the bend, a view of the valley, in which the cottage is nestled, opens up. After crossing the ever-flowing Snake Run creek, you'll arrive at the cottage. The cottage, whose history is likely as storied as the property on which it sits, began in this world as a corn crib, with antique chestnut lumber supporting the structure. In the early 1990's, the current owner set to renovate the structure into the 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin we know today. The roomy front porch leads into the cabin's cheery pine-paneled and timbered-ceiling kitchen with island seating and a view to the comfortable and similarly paneled living room. There is warmth and comfort conveyed in these spaces by using the very materials that surround the property.
The hallway from the Living Room leads to the two bedroom and the bathroom, which also houses the washer and dryer. The end of the hall leads to the rear porch that provides a view of the valley that leads to one of the two ponds.
Just behind the larger of the two ponds is a path that follows a seasonal stream to what once was the Hamrick homestead (on parcel 32). Although no structure remains in this location, the spring box, which once serviced the home, does. Prior to the current seller owning this parcel there was a right-of-way that allowed the Hamrick's access to Snake Run Road.
Past the larger pond and continuing through the fairly level valley floor, you'll find numerous apple trees, which are a draw for deer and other wildlife. The far end of the valley brings you to an outbuilding that was once used as a hunting cabin (located on Parcel 40). It has not been used in many years and would need a bit of TLC to make it habitable again. Although the electric cable runs overhead to this structure, the line has not been "hot" for some time (although it likely could be again.)
Just above the smaller of the two ponds, on the eastern side of the property, a road/trail begins and continues up along the eastern ridge, which is also the property border (on Parcel 40.1). The road continues to the southwest corner of the property. A portion of the land in this southwest section was professionally thinned 20 years ago (and was when the road/trail was installed, which is still enjoyed today). The thinning was selectively done and has allowed the remaining forest, which is comprised of a variety of Oak, Maple, Walnut and poplar, to name a few, to thrive. Amazing views present themselves as you continue around the ridges that surround the property. Trails continue along the ridge top and one drops out right behind the cabin.
Property also includes a 3 bedroom, 1 bath mobile home which sits directly off of Snake Run Road and has its own driveway, well, and septic.
This variety of terrain on this property affords a diverse range of recreational uses from ATV riding, hiking, camping, hunting and horseback riding.
Television reception may be received through satellite providers and internet may be provided through Hughes.net. Cell phone service can be difficult due to the mountains that surround the property.
Mineral rights convey.
Situated between Grassy Meadows and Blue Sulphur, this property has easy access on state-maintained roads to the I-64 corridor. Once on I-64, you may head east to Lewisburg or west to Beckley for excellent shopping, arts and entertainment, medical facilities, the 77 mile Greenbrier River Trail, and airports...all with 30 minutes from the property. Many outstanding recreational opportunities may be found within an hour's drive to include numerous state parks, whitewater rafting, Winterplace Ski Resort, and Tamarack which showcases the talents of WV artists. The school bus also travels along Snake Run Road.
